2) How is Masa Made?
Masa is made similarly to the process created by early
Aztec women. Kernels of corn are heated in a lime (calcium
carbonate) solution. They are then rinsed, drained,
ground, and dried. The ground corn then passes through a
system of rollers and sifters, finally reaching the
packaging line. It is here that the corn is combined with
other ingredients to make the masa flour ready for
packaging.

5) Can I use masa instead of flour to make bread?
No. Masa is made from corn so it doesn't contain
enough protein to give bread it's proper structure.
Also, masa is corn that has been soaked in lime water,
giving it a very distinct flavor that would not be
compatible in most breads.
